Riverfront Reflection
After winding through Richmond’s Southside, crossing the James River more than once, and searching for the entrance to the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge, the reward was waiting at the end of the trail.
Captured from the southern overlook after sunset, this photograph preserves the quiet contrast between the riverfront, the illuminated Richmond skyline, and the colorful reflections dancing across the James River. Sometimes the best view is the one you almost never find.
The Cleeeezy™ View
Some photographs begin long before the shutter is pressed.
This evening started with a simple goal: find the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge. What followed was an unexpected journey through Richmond, driving across multiple bridges, circling unfamiliar streets, asking strangers for directions, and slowly piecing together a path that no GPS seemed able to explain.
By the time I finally reached the trail, the sun was beginning to disappear. Walking across the bridge for the first time, the sound of the James River, the evening breeze, and the skyline unfolding in front of me made the search worthwhile.
Rather than continue walking, I found a quiet spot near the southern overlook, unfolded my small chair, and simply watched the city transition into night. From that perspective, the river, walkway, and glowing Richmond skyline naturally aligned into the composition captured here.
For me, this photograph isn’t just about Richmond. It’s about the persistence that often comes before discovery. Sometimes the most memorable destinations aren’t the easiest to reach, and that’s exactly what makes the moment worth documenting.
